I first started lifting weights as a part of training for high school baseball. Soon after I started, I immediately knew that it was something I would continue to do for the rest of my life. During my time at Franklin Central High School, my strength and conditioning coach became someone whom I looked up to as a mentor and an idol. I was fascinated by learning how the body responded to exercise and how it could be optimized to achieve different results. At IUPUI, I learned more about resistance training and finally realized I wanted to continue my education into graduate school and study athletic training.
As an Exercise Science major at IUPUI, I learn
about the science behind physical activity and human movement. This
includes topics such as anatomy,
physiology, biomechanics,
nutrition, and how they all relate to exercise. I learn how
to design unique exercise programs for diverse groups of people ranging
from individuals who suffer from disabilities to athletes of
various sports.
I chose to major in Exercise Science because I love to learn
about the complexity of the human body and have a strong personal interest
in resistance training. I have future career goals of gaining
experience in strength coaching/personal training, as well as
studying athletic training in graduate school after obtaining
my bachelor's.
